Termites are social insects that feed on dead plant material, generally in the form of wood, leaf litter, or soil. It is most common for termites to burrow up to the surface looking for food and find cellulous near a home foundation that leads to the actual wooden structure of the house. Termites cause thousands of dollars of damage to buildings and houses every year.

As social insects, termites live in colonies (like ants) that can number from several thousand to several million individual termites. They use a swarming technique to search for food sources. A termite colony will contain every phase of termite, from larvae, to immature, then workers, soldiers, and reproductive insects of both genders. It is not uncommon for a single colony to contain several queens, the egg-layers.

It is not uncommon for older houses to have some level of termite infestation. Typically you need an exterminator to find termites unless you disturb them or see a swarm. If you see insects flying out of your wall that look like black cigar shaped bugs with long clear wings (wings that are longer than the body of the insect) - call us - you might have a case of swarming termites. Swarming ants have shorter wings and they are not clear - you cannot see through the wings of an ant.

The Termidor® Termite Treatment System
We use the Termidor termiticide/insecticide termite treatment - Termidor has a number of flexible application options. When a termite ingests or touches Termidor, it "carries" the insecticide to other termites and "infects" them. Termidor is slow-acting and thus allows infected termites a good amount of time to infect others in the colony before it dies. This leads to a devastating affect on the termite colony.
